Simply. Sophisticated. Summer. with Banana Republic

*Today's post is in collaboration with Banana Republic.

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

With the official kickoff of summer right around the corner, I've added some sophisticated summer essentials to my wardrobe.  This adorable striped bow-neck shift dress immediately caught my eye when shopping Banana Republic's newest summer pieces.  Stripes always make me think of summertime and I adore bow-neck detail.  Plus a shift dress is perfect when trying to achieve an easy no fuss summertime look.

Every summer, I always pick up what I consider to be two summer essentials...a great straw hat and a gorgeous straw bag.  You may have noticed that I've been wearing my straw hat with everything...that's how much I love it and I've been carrying my tote bag nearly everyday too.  I love the simplicity yet chic style of both of these accessories and their neutral color truly goes with everything.

For a size reference, I am wearing a size 4 in the dress (which is on sale for only $60 btw) and I'm wearing a L/XL in the hat as I like my hats to fit a bit looser.

Banana Republic has some of the cutest summer pieces right now!  I've included some of my favorites from their "Simply. Sophisticated. Summer." collection below as well!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by...hope you have a wonderful day!

Diamonds...A Girl's Best Friend with Simon G Jewelry

*Today's post is in collaboration with Simon G. Jewelry.

Jewelry C/O Simon G Jewelry

We've all heard the saying "diamonds are a girls best friend" and I've got to say, I totally agree!  Wedding season is upon us and it has me thinking back to when Peter and I got engaged...I will never forget him getting down on one knee, opening his heart, and putting the most beautiful diamond ring on my finger.  I'm pretty sure I couldn't stop staring at my ring for weeks to come after our proposal!

Although that seems like yesterday, time has passed and we have now been married for almost 11 years!  WOW...so hard to believe.  Talk about time flying by.  A proposal, our wedding day, a move from California to Arizona, a puppy baby, two human babies, and then a move from Arizona to Nashville (with lots of other things in between!).  We've made so many incredible memories over the years!

Over our years together, one thing I have grown to love so much about Peter is that he is one of the most thoughtful persons that I know.  He has the most kind generous heart and he cares about and loves his family so deeply.  He is also really great at planning special surprises!  I can hardly ever pull off a surprise but he pulls them off without a hitch!

Speaking of surprises...I've shared with Peter that I would love to add another diamond band to my left hand at some point and I'm certain, when the time is right, he will surprise me with the most perfect anniversary ring!  I have no expectations because I know that he will plan to surprise me at the most perfect time.

Luckily, I've already started creating a wish list with Simon G Jewelry!  It has been so fun browsing their stunning pieces and making note of those that catch my eye.  Let's be honest, they ALL catch my eye but there are certain pieces that are total stand outs.  I absolutely adore this ring and these wrap around bangle bracelets.  And how stunning is this diamond engagement ring too?!

Simon G Jewelry's attention to detail is incredible and you can see it with every single piece!  I love that they offer pieces for all occasions and their engagement ring selection is one of the best I've ever seen!  Their pieces are so unique and you can feel certain you will be investing in a piece that is one of a kind and will carry from generation to generation.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a great long weekend ahead!

Pippa Off the Should Maxi Dress

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

DRESS C/O || SHOES in black || BAG || RING || WATCH

I'm pretty sure this Pippa off the shoulder maxi dress is what every gals maxi dress dreams are made of!  The navy backdrop with the all over bold floral print makes this dress a total stand out and of course I love the off the shoulder style with the ruffle detail.

Maxi dresses are perfect to dress up or down.  Because of the length, you can easily transform your look from day to night making it super versatile.  Think casual cook out with friends, to graduation party, to attending a friends wedding...this dress would be perfect for all of those occasions.

Because I'm 5'4", I'm wearing a higher heel but you can also wear this with wedge sandals and if you don't need the extra boost, you can wear it with sandals too.

Do you love maxi dresses as much as I do?!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Women's Work Wear with Nordstrom

*Today's post is in partnership with Nordstrom.

BLAZER || TOP || SKIRT || SANDALS || BAG

For many years, Nordstrom has been one of my go-to destinations to shop for pieces from some of my absolute favorite brands.  I love shopping for beautiful dresses, denim, shoes, jewelry, handbags, etc. I've always been able to find exactly what I'm looking for and I've really enjoyed discovering new brands through Nordstrom as well.

Although I shop at Nordstrom often, I typically don't think to shop for work wear.  Maybe it's because I get too distracted and end up buying things that I necessarily didn't plan to shop for.  Let's be honest...that happens to me all of the time!  Anyone else?!  I just can't help myself!

More recently I've starting buying work wear pieces from Nordstrom as well...it's now a one stop shop, which makes my life much easier.  And the fact that I can order online, try on at home, and ship back what doesn't fit, for FREE, really makes this busy working Mom so happy (and less stressed too ;-).

Many of you may (or may not know) that I work full time as a VP in HR for a Fortune 500 company and although I work from a home office, I still attend local meetings, which means that I have to get out of my athletic wear and "get dressed" on occasion.  So for me, picking versatile work wear pieces is important to me.  As a career woman, I've learned over the years that you can look polished, professional, and put-together without having to wear a "power suit".  Those days are over for me...pretty sure my power suits have been retired for some time now.

It's totally okay to dress a bit more modern in the workplace now (assuming you keep it professional and classy).  Many companies have taken on a more business casual approach and have even been implementing more casual days as well.

The pieces I picked for today's work wear look with Nordstrom are modern, classic, versatile, and perfect for work to weekend wear.  Adding a great blazer to complete your outfit instantly elevates your look and makes it more business professional...perfect for meetings with clients or a presentation in the boardroom.  The structured fit and length of this chambray skirt also yields a more office appropriate look.  A classic nude sandal with a moderate heel is also a perfect pick for the office.

Nordstrom is now my go-to destination for work wear as well!  They have such a broad selection of work wear pieces that are perfect for more modern business casual (or business professional) looks.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by...hope your week gets off to a great start!

Golden Floral Bardot Midi Dress

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

DRESS || HEELS || WATCH || RING

A little Sunday morning sunshine today...this dress just brightens my day.  The bold yellow flowers are so cheerful and the off the shoulder style creates an ultra feminine feel.  Plus the fit & flare midi-length style is so figure flattering too.

Because the print of this dress is so bold, I chose not to add a lot of accessories.  The dress stands out on its own.  I chose black heels to pull out the black in the center of the flowers but you could also wear a nude heel or even add a pop of color like red or emerald green!

Sizing tip...read the "size guide" in inches before selecting your size.  I'm wearing a UK size 10 and it fits perfectly!

Hope you have a wonderful Sunday and as always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Casual Memorial Day Look - Off The Shoulder Top + Frayed White Jeans

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

TOP || DENIM || SANDALS || RING 1 || RING 2

Memorial Day is right around the corner and holiday plans are underway.  To me, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer and the beginning of cookout season!

But let's not forget why those of us in the US celebrate Memorial Day...it is a time to reflect on and pay respect to all of the men and women who lost their life serving our country.  "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free.  And I won't forget the men who died, that gave that right to me."  I get teary eyed every time I hear or sing this song.  #allthewarmfuzzyfeelings

So let's talk a bit about this casual Memorial Day look.  I'm all for wearing red, white, and blue (well in this case pale dusty blue and white) and showing my patriotism.  Memorial Day is the perfect opportunity to wear this color combo.  With today's look, you could easily add a pop of red (think cute sandal (love THESE & THESE), red statement earrings (how cute are THESE), a slim bandana scarf (like THIS ONE), etc).  Or you just wear it as is because in my opinion it is still very patriotic and it is the perfect look for those casual cookouts, parties, etc that you may be going to.

I just adore this gorgeous off the shoulder top!  The lace detail is just stunning and the material is so silky and light.  And I struggled with finding a pair of white denim that I loved this year until I stumbled upon these.  I love the fit and to be honest, the thickness too...they smooth things out and you can't see through them.  And let's talk about the frayed hemline...how cute, right?!

Do you have any Memorial Day plans yet?

As always, thanks for stopping by...have a wonderful weekend ahead!

Anguilla - CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa

Swimsuits C/O Red Carter

Anguilla will forever have a special place etched in my heart..it truly is a magical island, one that makes a lasting impression and one that you will crave going back the moment that you leave.

We recently visited Anguilla for the first time and to say that we had THE. BEST. TIME is an understatement.  It's hard to put into words how an island, like Anguilla, can ignite your soul and make you have major wanderlust for your next adventure.

Our stay was rather short and we didn't even get to scratch the surface of this beautiful island so we have already agreed that we will return to Anguilla someday, hopefully in the near future.

We traveled to Anguilla to celebrate the marriage of two dear friends and during our time on the island, we were surrounded by a group of wonderful friends and some family too (Peter's parents were there as well).

Everyone who traveled to Anguilla for the wedding stayed at the CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa, which was absolutely beautiful!

I'm pinching myself that I didn't capture any images of our room (it was so spacious, the bed was beyond comfortable, it had the most gorgeous view, and the bathroom was what every girls dreams are made of).  But I did my best to capture the property during our short stay there.  Of course I also shot pictures on my phone of me and Peter, the wedding, our friends, etc but I didn't want to bombard you with too many images!

We were there in late April, which apparently is a slow time on the island.  Lucky for us, that worked out perfectly because it felt like we had the resort to ourselves.  We spent so much time on the beach and at times, we were literally the only beach goers in site.  We couldn't help but feel like we were on our own private island.  Of course we spent most of our time with family and friends but we did have several moments during our trip where we got to sneak away for some one on one time.  We walked the beach every day and sometimes late at night too.  It was so peaceful and serene.

Our very first night at the resort we had a wonderful meal at Italia, which is a restaurant on property.  As you may assume, it was an Italian restaurant and the food was delicious!  One of the things I love most about CuisinArt is the Hydroponic Farm that they have on property.  They grow much of their own produce and throughout our stay, many of the meal options that I selected included fresh fruits and vegetables from their farm.  We were even greeted with a bowl of small tomatoes when we arrived and they were some of the best tomatoes I have ever had!

CuisinArt also has the most beautiful spa...27,000 feet of spa space...it is huge and they offer so many incredible services.  I didn't have time to take advantage of the spa while on property but next time I will!  I went on a tour and was so impressed with the spa facility so this will be top on my list when we return.

One of my other favorite meals was  just a short walk down the beach to the Sunshine Shack!  Talk about authentic island food.  They make the BEST jerk chicken and jerk ribs.  Peter and I were one of only 3 couples having lunch so it was such a genuine authentic experience.  We set at a picnic table in the sand and ate our meal served on a paper plate while we looked out at the ocean.  I love spots like this and we will absolutely return, probably a few times, when we visit Anguilla again.  One day we plan to take Reins and Addison with us and show them where we signed their names on the ceiling of the Sunshine Shack!

Beyond relaxing on the beach/by the pool, eating delicious food, taking advantage of every miami vice we could find, and spending time with our family and friends, we didn't have much time for anything else.  Our time was short but we enjoyed every moment that we were there!

I wanted to also share a couple of tips with you all.  Traveling to Anguilla, depending on where you are traveling from, takes about a full day.  From Nashville to Miami, Miami to St. Maarten, St. Maarten to Anguilla (by boat), taxi to resort, etc...it takes a good bit of time.  We teased that we were on planes, trains, and automobiles (minus the train, add in a boat).  If you every visit Anguilla, I highly recommend using FunTime Charters to get from St. Maarten to Anguilla.  The transfer was smooth, seamless, and the staff was very friendly.  It is about a 30 minute boat right (on a speed boat) and it times it can be very choppy, so hold on tight!

You should also know that it is an expensive island to visit.  Well worth the money but it is expensive.  From the boat ride over, to the hotel room and nightly taxes, to the cost of food, to the tax you pay per person to leave the island, etc. you will need to plan accordingly and go into your trip knowing that you will be spending a good bit of money.  You will also need to always double check your bills...they do add tip into each bill (they call it a surcharge) but essentially, it is the tip.  We were caught off guard a couple of times when the staff told us that it wasn't the tip when in fact it was so just check everything.  We knew that we would be spending a good bit of money going in so it wasn't a surprise to us but I could see how some may be thrown off by how much you end up spending.  Plan ahead and save enough money so you can truly relax and enjoy your time while there!

Overall, I highly recommend visiting Anguilla and staying at the CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa!  We are already trying to plan our next trip back.  I think next time we may island hop a bit...there is just so much to see and do!

Where will you be traveling to this summer?!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by...I hope you have a wonderful day!
