Going Red for Addison + A Heartfelt Event with Kendra Scott

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

There is so much more to this red dress than just a bright bold color, a figure flattering silhouette, and a beautiful ruffle detail.  This dress has meaning...the reason I wear this red dress HAS meaning and it is all about Addison!

For those of you who have been regular visitors to KBStyled, you will most likely recall "Addison's heart story" that I have shared for the last 2 years.

You see, Addison was born with a heart defect...her heart was a little less than perfect although she seemed absolutely PERFECT in our eyes.  From the day she was born, there was always a dark cloud that followed us around knowing that one day, Addison's tiny heart would have to be fixed.  What this meant is that our sweet baby girl had to undergo open heart surgery to mend her broken heart.

Surgery day came and went with much success and she is a thriving, spirited, funny, adventurous, loving, and smart 6 year old!  Read more about our "Addison's heart story" HERE!

Having gone through this experience with our sweet little girl we have become more aware about how we can give back in a way that benefits & supports others who may have a similar condition or who may have overcome heart related health issues.

For the last several years I have been involved with our local American Heart Association chapter.  Being able to share Addison's story and use my voice through KBStyled has been such a blessing.

Giving back to the American Heart Association is important to me and my family.  This year marks my 3rd year hosting an event with Kendra Scott to benefit the American Heart Association.

On 2/13/18, I will be hosting an "give back" event with Nashville's local Kendra Scott where a percentage of the proceeds will be donated back to the American Heart Association.  My hope in doing this is that I will bring more awareness both locally and nationally.

I've included the details for our event below!  You don't have to be local to get involved.  If you wish to contribute to this cause, you are welcome to contact our local Kendra Scott store and purchase the "Addison earrings" (see pic below) or any other item so the proceeds will go to the Nashville American Heart Association.

Every bit of involvement makes a difference!  Last year I heard from so many of you with personal heart health related stories and I imagine there are many stories to share.

If you live locally, I'd love for you to come out the evening of the event to meet, enjoy an evening out, and support a great cause!  I hope to see you there!

On behalf of Addison and our family, thank you for letting me share a bit about her story with you!  I appreciate you taking the time to read today's post and if you ever wish to share your own personal story, please don't hesitate to reach out!

A HEARTFELT EVENT WITH KENDRA SCOTT & THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Photography by Madi Flournoy Henderson

"I saw that you were perfect, and so I loved you.  Then I saw that you were not perfect and I loved you even more".  - Angelita Lim

When your child is born and everything on the outside is absolutely perfect...so much so that all you can do is sit and stare.  She is stunning to the eye with a head full of hair and piercing blue eyes.  She nuzzles up to you because you are familiar, your scent is what she knows, you are her safe place, your voice is music to her ears...and because she is yours and you are hers.  You are her MOM and that unconditional love and bond is stronger than ever.  It's magical...a moment in time that is unforgettable.

And then you are told that your child may not be so perfect on the inside.  That in fact, her tiny heart is less than perfect.  A heart with holes.  Something so brand new that was supposed to be whole and perfect...something was broken.  A tiny heart that has to work a little harder to function properly.  A heart that will ultimately have to be fixed.

This was our moment in time...when we learned that Addison's tiny little heart was less than perfect.  Our perfect baby girl was not whole...she would need to have her tiny little heart fixed in the near future.  She had to grow and mature enough to undergo a lengthy open heart surgery to make her heart whole again.  Her impending surgery was the heaviest dark cloud we have ever faced but surgery came and went and she is now a thriving 5 year old with a very special scar that will forever remind us of that tiny, now thriving, heart within our perfect little girl!

With this all being said and as you an imagine, The American Heart Association is a very near and dear cause to our family.  I am beyond exciting to be teaming up with Kendra Scott & The American Heart Association to host an event in Addison's honor and to kick off heart health awareness month, which kicks off in February.

Our event will take place on Thursday 1/26/17 from 5pm-8pm at the Nashville Kendra Scott store and 20% of all sales during our event will be donated to Nashville's American Heart Association chapter.  Also, there are certain pieces, including the "Addison" earrings (and those that I am wearing in today's post), that if purchased, an additional 20% will be donated!  Consider it a girls night out...there will be food, beverages, live music, and some other special touches!  I've included the invitation below for additional details.

If you don't live in the Nashville area but you wish to support this cause in honor of someone you may know (or in honor of our sweet girl), you may contact our local Nashville Kendra Scott store to order.  Ask to speak with Laura and she will be happy to assist you!

To Order:
